Sexy Sustainable Swimwear

Ahh yes…the sun is shining, the temperature rising, and whether we like it or not, summer is almost here and so is bikini season.

Never would I think that my itty bitty bikini could have such a huge impact on our Mother. “So what your saying is that my barely there, cost me an arm and a leg, string bikini is also negatively impacting our environment?”

The answer is yes.  “Most conventional suits are made of synthetic fibers like polyester and nylon, which are made from petrochemicals that have significant environmental impacts. In addition, nylon manufacturing creates nitrous oxide, a greenhouse gas (1)” Awesome.

Well Homegirl, not to worry. With sustainability being a hot topic now-a-days, there has been a tremendous growth in sustainable swimsuit companies that could easily compete in style and fit with other non-enviro friendly competitors.

YAAASSS.

Long before I was even aware they were sustainable, I was in love with Vitamin A Swimwear. The perfect fit and trendy style of this brand surpasses everyone else. I cannot rave about this swimwear line enough.

“We want to beautify the beach in more ways than one, so we’re doing our part to lighten our environmental footprint.”

“Our exclusive new EcoLux™ matte superfine jersey is made with recycled nylon fiber to conserve precious resources. Our prints are created, when possible, with waterless digital technology at factories specially chosen for their innovative approaches to conserving electricity and water.”

Seriously, what’s not to love about this brand?

koru

Koru Swimwear is a force to be reckoned with. This New Zealand brand does not mess around when it comes to sustainability. These Kiwis are proving the point that you can be sustainable without having to give up style.

Koru Swimwear is inspired by the Kiwi lifestyle, best described as a relaxed attitude with a love of the environment and great outdoors.”

“Koru Swimwear aspires to be a leader in eco-responsible manufacturing practices by using only sustainable fabrics.  Our swimwear fabric comes from the Italian company Carvico / Jersey Lomellina, a Green Vision company making efforts to reduce and prevent pollution associated with textile manufacturing.  They are also proactive in giving back to the environment through tree planting and water conservation programs they implement throughout the year.

Koru Swimwear uses only swimwear fabric derived from 100% regenerated polyamide made by ECONYL®.  ECONYL® works in partnership with HealthySeas.org to use discarded fishing nets pulled from our oceans to make the regenerated yarn in our fabrics.

Our apparel is made using sustainable and organic fabrics that eliminate the use of harmful herbicides, pesticides and fungicides.  We also extend our environmental approach into everything we do, from using recycled paper hangtags, to packaging our swimwear in compostable clear bags made from plant materials.”

‘Nough said… I’m on board.

Odina Surf is giving power to the everyday surfer babe with protecting Mother Earth as the foundation of their brand. They asked real surfer girls to test, try out and pose in their brand, no models necessary. Also, when you visit their website, feel comforted in the fact that their webserver is completely powered by the wind.

” Odina was founded in 2010 to fill a void in the swimwear industry for active women that wanted a sustainable, highly-functional swimsuit that was still fashionable.”

“The idea was to make a suit using eco-friendly materials that not only complimented a woman’s figure, but also her passions. We worked with surfers, not models, to get feedback on fit and function; with women that are exploring the world, surfing jaw-dropping waves and helping the planet that they love, to test their product.

“Setting the standard in eco-swimwear, Odina has put thought into every aspect of production. From the fabric, which is recylced nylon to the tags, which are organic cotton even down to this website which is hosted on a 100% wind powered server, Odina is committed to a truly sustainable business model. Additionally, all suits are manufactured in the U.S.A.. An Odina girl lives her life to the fullest but respects the earth and all its inhabitants, all the while looking great doing it!”
