About Us

We started this blog because we are both passionate about living healthy and being happy.

It is so important to us to not only take care of ourselves, but to take care of the place we grow our food from, the place we explore and create memories, and the place that we will raise our future generations on; Mother Earth.

Mother Earth is my Homegirl is our spot for sharing tips and proving that being kind to yourself and your environment doesn’t mean you have to eat granola and hug trees (unless you want to!). Here you’ll find topics on everything from natural beauty products, delicious recipes, nutrition tips, ways to live sustainably, and more for the modern day babe.

About the Homegirls

Jen&stephnuggets

We have been besties ever since our little 5 -year-old butts sat next to each other on those special rugs in Kindergarten class. We grew up together in sunny southern California, both moved to northern California for college, and have been there for each other through thick & thin, and now we’re starting a blog together!

“I have always loved food and cooking from an early age but didn’t know how exactly I wanted to incorporate that into a career when I grew up. After college these passions grew as did my interest in a more holistic approach to eating and wellness. I finally turned this interest of mine into something more when I earned my certification as  Holistic Nutrition Consultant this past year. Part of my drive and desire to help others through nutrition comes from my personal struggle with an eating disorder in my younger years.  A huge part of my recovery was learning to honor my body with whole and natural foods that made me feel nourished and satisfied, not deprived. Changing my mindset from an unhealthy, diet-driven focus to a lifestyle that encourages whole body wellness was life changing. My personal health philosophy is all about balance and finding the right balance that works for you, because everyone is different!”

“As a child I grew up playing in piles of  compost where my father’s sustainable company, California Biomass, recycled green waste to make compost. Even then my passion for a healthy lifestyle and sustainability really didn’t develop until college when I started to learn about the human body and how what you consume and expose your body to can affect you in the long term. It really set in for me when my dad and two of his three siblings were diagnosed with cancer, all forms completely random from another. My family and I know we can never understand exactly why they were diagnosed with cancer, but the one thing that we could draw a conclusion from was genetics and some environmental trigger. My dad had a clear memory of him and his siblings as adolescents playing in their hometown’s orange tree groves, where we now know pesticides were being sprayed. My personal health philosophy is if we want to understand where our health and happiness lies, we have to take a look around our home first.”
